{"id":3697,"date":"2016-12-05T08:24:38","date_gmt":"2016-12-05T15:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ireneskayakingblog.com\/?p=3697"},"modified":"2021-07-09T15:06:33","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T22:06:33","slug":"cedar-river-gates-whitewater-slalom-training-is-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ireneskayakingblog.com\/kayak-practice\/cedar-river-gates-whitewater-slalom-training-is-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Cedar River Gates Whitewater Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent Saturday morning at the slalom gates at the Cedar River alongside Landsburg Park near Ravensdale (thanks to slalom kayaker Joey Yeaple who organized an all-welcome event to get people working on technical skills.<\/p>\n<p>I absolutely love working on slalom moves, not that I&#8217;m proficient at all, <strong>I just notice that practicing being precise and consistent on even very easy water transfers directly to a noticeable benefit in significantly harder whitewater<\/strong> &#8211; it&#8217;s amazing.<\/p>\n<p>And just for the record, you don&#8217;t need to be in a slalom boat, I was in a Dagger RPM and it&#8217;s totally fine to bring a creekboat or whatever you may have.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to join in on slalom practice, check the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nwwhitewater.org\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>League of Northwest Whitewater Racers page<\/strong><\/a> to see if they&#8217;re holding any.
